A 46-year-old woman accused of assault causing harm to her own sister with a knife appeared today at Cork District Court.

Judge Mary Dorgan was given an outline of the allegations in the case against Mandy Cullen of Elm Vale Court, Wilton, Cork, on the charge of assault causing harm to Gillian Cullen.

Sergeant John Dineen outlined the allegations and handed in a medical report which set out details of the arm injury.

The judge said: “It is an aggravating factor that it was her sister. However, I will accept jurisdiction.”

Judge Dorgan then adjourned the case to October 14 to allow time for full disclosure of prosecution documents to Joseph Cuddigan solicitor.

Sergeant Dineen said: “On March 5 2024 gardaí responded to an alleged assault at Elton Lawn, Bishopstown, Cork.

“On arrival at the scene Garda Shane Masters met the injured party, Gillian Cullen, who had a medium sized laceration across her left arm. Gillian Cullen stated to Garda Masters that her sister had cut her with a knife.

“A short time later, Mandy Cullen was arrested on Bishopstown Road and she was detained at Togher garda station for the alleged offence. She made no admissions.”
