The HSE said:  “For women who correctly completed online self-registration between February and August, but could not see their details on the register, please be assured that we do have your information."

The HSE has said that issues some women had viewing their details on the BreastCheck register will be resolved soon.

It admitted that women who tried to self-register with BreastCheck earlier this year had issues viewing their details, but moved to reassure them that they are on the register.

Speaking to The Echo, a spokesperson for the HSE said: “The majority of women do not need to self-register for BreastCheck. Most women are added to the BreastCheck register automatically through the Department of Social Protection.

“For women who correctly completed online self-registration between February and August, but could not see their details on the register, please be assured that we do have your information.

“The issue is that the system has not been displaying self-registration details when women check the register again.

“If you self-registered between February and August and provided your mobile number, you will receive a text message from us in early September to confirm your registration and let you know when you can view your details online.

“There is a dedicated team working to fix the issue, which is expected to be resolved soon.”

The HSE statement was issued after women contacted RTÉ Radio One’s Liveline programme to highlight instances where they had registered themselves, but could not view their own details on the register later.

Meanwhile, the HSE was also criticised last week for its failure to meet screening targets.

Speaking in relation to HSE Breastcheck, Cork North West Sinn Féin senator Nicole Ryan said: “Our responsibility is to register. The HSE’s responsibility is to ensure that women are screened in a timely manner.

“It is simply not good enough. Early detection saves lives.”
