A Macroom plasterer, whose car was found overturned in the middle of the road, has been banned from driving for three years.
Jamie McCarthy, aged 29, of Knockane, Terelton, Macroom, pleaded guilty to drink driving, at Macroom District Court.
Gardaí responded to a report of a single-vehicle road traffic collision at Carrigadrohid on October 6, 2024, at 5.24pm.
The court heard McCarthy’s car was on its roof in the middle of the road when gardaí arrived.
He was receiving treatment for facial injuries.
He provided a breath specimen at the scene and was taken to Macroom Garda Station, where a blood sample returned a reading of 184mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood. The legal limit is 50mg.
The court heard he had four previous convictions, two for drug possession and two for public order offences.
Defence solicitor, Jack Purcell, said McCarthy, who was on a 12-month probation bond, had made “a stupid mistake.”
He said his client worked full-time as a self-employed plasterer and did not have addiction issues.
Mr Purcell said McCarthy had been fully co-operative, had not left the scene and no one else was involved in the collision.
Judge Joanne Carroll noted McCarthy’s co-operation, convicted him of drink driving and disqualified him from driving for three years.
