Cork club championship fixtures: The games to watch out for in 2024

AS always, the Cork club hurling championships come packed with many eye-catching matchups, and what better way to start the Premier Senior hurling season than with a showdown between St Finbarr’s and Blackrock in Páirc Uí Rinn on Friday evening, August 2?
The football championships are no different – as Friday, July 26 will mark the commencement of the Cork club championship season with a west Cork derby between Castlehaven and Clon in Rosscarbery, while Nemo Rangers take on Ballincollig in Ballymaw at the same time – 7.45pm.
Glen Rovers begin their Senior A HC campaign with a trip east to Carrigtwohill where they’ll face Killeagh on Friday, August 2.
Staying with the SAHC, Bride Rovers and Castlelyons won’t need to travel far for their derby – as their second SAHC round-robin fixture is set for Ballynoe on Friday, August 23 at 7pm.
The SAHC group stages will conclude on Saturday, September 7 at 6.30pm with a variety of interesting matchups including Blarney v Na Piarsaigh in Ovens, Bride Rovers v Fermoy in Ballynoe and Cloyne v Castlelyons in Dungourney.
Clonakilty take on Carbery Rangers in a Dunmanway double header on Sunday, August 18 at 4pm, while the PIFC clash between Bantry Blues and Bandon will provide an exciting curtain raiser at 2pm.

Local rivals Éire Óg and Ballincollig will do battle in Kilmurry on Sunday, September 15 at 4pm in the final group game of the PSFC, while at the same time Castlehaven close out their group stage campaign with a short trip to Leap, facing Carbery Rangers.
At 2pm that same day, Dohenys will face O’Donovan Rossa in another west Cork showdown, this one in the SAFC.
The Premier Intermediate hurling fixtures will see a Muskerry derby between Aghabullogue and Éire Óg in Carrigadrohid on Saturday, August 3, while the latter will have another derby in round two when they face Ballincollig again, though this one will be with the small ball.
Throw in is at 7pm, Friday, August 23 in Cloughduv.
The PIFC opens with a repeat of this year’s quarter final between Bantry and Nemo Rangers in Enniskeane, Sunday July 28 at 7.30pm.
Midleton and Sars will meet once again, though this time in the IAHC in Cobh on Friday, August 23 at 7pm, while the opening round of games at that grade sees Mayfield and Lisgoold face off in Castlelyons on Sunday, August 4 at 1.30pm.
In Premier Junior football, Kilmurry face Cobh for a fourth championship meeting in three years as they head to Ballyanley on Sunday, July 28, while Canovee will close out the group stage campaign in their first season at Premier Junior against local rivals Kilmurry in Macroom on September 13.
In hurling, Barryroe take on west Cork rivals Kilbrittain in their opening Premier Junior game in Clonakilty on Friday, August 2.
