Ballinascarthy were crowned Red Fm Divisional 7 Hurling league champions after seeing of Kinsale at Charlie Hurley Park in Bandon on Sunday morning.

The Carbery men led by Jeremy Ryan, who racked up 1-7, were far to strong for the Kinsale men.

Sean Conlon opened the scoring on two minutes, with Kinsale’s John O’Brien levelling proceedings with an accurate free Jeremy Ryan, who proved deadly from the placed ball over the hour, landed his second free Ryan was again accurate moments later as a long-range effort sailed over the bar.

The first score from play arrived as John O'Brien fed O’Neill,  who fired the sliotar over the bar on seven minutes, as O’Brian had another free to level the match on 10 minutes.

The West Cork outfit then took a firm grip on the game as Ryan, Luke Murray and Sean Conlon all had points as the score read 1-7 to 0-3 on 20 minutes.

John O’Brien secured another Kinsale score with a long range free as Cullinane sent over a fine effort up the other side of the pitch.

From there to the interval the sides exchanged points as the score board read 1-9 to 0-7 at the break O’Brien was again on target in the opening minutes of the second thirty as Ferguson added a point to the South West men’s tally.

Kinsale were then handed a body blow when a Jeremy Ryan free ended up in the Kinsale net on 37 minutes.

O’Brien, who kept Kinsale in the contest then fired over a long range free, followed by a Coughlan point as the score had Ballinascarthy leading by 2-11 to 10 on 41 minutes.

Despite two more Kinsale points from O’ Brien and Kian O’ Callaghan Ballinascarthy went up a gear as Ryan (2) and Ciaran Nyhan added three white flags to their total 2-15 to 0-12 as injury time approached.

Ferguson finished the game for the eventual winners with a fine individual goal, holding off the Kinsale full back to plant the ball in the Kinsale net as they took the Con Murphy Trophy home West of Bandon.
