Aghada, Castlehaven, Glanmire and Mourneabbey are amongst the early pacesetters in this year’s Cork Credit Union Cork LGFA Division 1 senior county league.

Round 3 of the Cork LGFA county leagues take place last weekend with a Division 1 Group 1 top-of-the-table clash between Mourneabbey and Aghada assuming top billing.

The former overcame O’Donovan Rossa (0-13 to 2-4) and Éire Óg (3-14 to 1-11) to get their season off to a perfect start. Reigning senior county champions Aghada were equally impressive in seeing off Rossa’s (2-10 to 2-5) and St Val’s (4-5 to 0-7).

Róisín Phelan, Sally McAllister, Kaitlin Smith, Brianna Smith and Mary Leahy have been in fine form for the Rostellan club and will relish another tough test against in-form Mourneabbey.

Glanmire are another club on maximum points after their opening Group 1 outings. The co-leaders will look to maintain their undefeated start against O’Donovan Rossa on Sunday.

Aisling McAllen, Michelle Dullea, Lucy Greene and Niamh McAllen are scoring regularly for a Glanmire side eager to lay a foundation for this year’s Cork LGFA senior county championship. Also on Sunday, Éire Óg and St Val’s meet in Ovens with each team desperate to register their first points of the new campaign.

West Cork club Castlehaven lead the way in Division 1 Group 2 after overcoming Fermoy (4-10 to 2-8) and Clonakilty (1-11 to 1-10). Mairead O’Driscoll has been in excellent scoring form, netting three goals in two games. The Haven’s other main scorers, Amy McCarthy, Ellen Connolly and Niamh O’Sullivan will require careful marking away to Naomh Abán.

The Ballyvourney club’s solitary league outing resulted in a 2-19 to 3-5 victory away to Fermoy. Expect Grace Murphy, Allanagh Hoare, Annie Maher, Aoife Creedon and Caoimhe Twomey to feature prominently in an important Naomh Abán fixture against Castlehaven.

Elsewhere in Division 1 Group 2, a West Cork derby between Clonakilty and Kinsale should produce plenty of scores in Ahamilla.

Each side has won once thus far with Clon having played a game more. The hosts will look to Sinead O’Donovan, Aisling Moloney, Siofra Pattwell, Aoife O’Flynn Meade and Katie O’Driscoll for scores. Kinsale’s senior team contains in-form players Catherine Murphy, Kate Redmond, Lorraine Copithorne, Caoimhe Horgan and Mary Claire Murphy.

Carrigaline and Rosscarbery are the early Division 2 county league pacesetters heading into this weekend’s third round of fixtures.

The top two meet in Carrigaline on Sunday with Ciara O’Rourke, Kellianne French, Etaoin Hayes, Ciara Hourihane, Laura Roycroft, Cliona Maguire and Ciara Whooley looking to inspire the visitors to victory.

In the same division, a clutch of clubs can close the gap on the leaders. Bantry Blues host Valley Rovers in Wolfe Tone Park with both teams on three points apiece. Seadna O’Sullivan, Ann Coakley, Sally O’Donovan and Cliodhna O’Sea have been amongst the Blues’ top performers and eager to keep their club’s promotion hunt on track.

Douglas and Inch Rovers are also on three points each and scheduled to meet this weekend. Struggling Abhainn Dalla and Araglen Desmonds Buí’s bottom-of-the-table matchup offers both participants an opportunity to register their maiden league win.
