A man has died in a fatal single-vehicle traffic collision in Tullamore, Co Offaly.

The collision took place on the R421 at Clonagh East shortly after 5am on Saturday.

The sole occupant of the car, a man in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road remains closed with local diversions in place as a forensic examination of the scene takes place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area of the collision between 4.45am and 5.45am are asked to make this footage available
