Post-mortem on body of woman who died in Cork to be carried out today

A post-mortem examination will be carried out today on the body of pensioner Stella Nnadi who died at Cork University Hospital (CUH) yesterday less than two days after gardaí went to her home having received reports of a dispute.
Ms Nnadi, who is in her eighties and originally from Nigeria, was taken to CUH yesterday morning after she complained of feeling unwell. She was assessed for a head injury. Ms Nnadi died onsite yesterday afternoon.
Gardai had attended at her home at Garrydhu Drive in Kilmoney Road in Carrigaline on Sunday after they were called to an incident. A man was brought to CUH for a psychiatric assessment. He was subsequently discharged from hospital.
A 38-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the investigation into the death of the woman. He is being detained at Togher Garda Station in Cork.
The woman’s home in Carrigaline has been technically examined as part of the garda investigation in to the death. House to house enquiries are also underway.
The post-mortem examination on the deceased will determine the course of the investigation.
The post mortem will be undertaken this afternoon by State Pathologist Dr Heidi Okkers.
A Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) has been appointed to lead the investigation, and a Family Liaison Officer (FLO) has been assigned to provide support and information to the deceased’s family.
Gardai yesterday confirmed that a investigation was underway.
“Gardaí in Cork are investigating the death of a woman in her 80s following an incident at a residential property in Carrigaline, Co. Cork on Sunday 23rd February. While the woman did not initially require medical assistance, she subsequently became unwell. She was transported to Cork University Hospital on Tuesday, 25th February, where she was later pronounced deceased.”
The statement also said that a person has been arrested in connection with the incident.
“A man in his 30s has been arrested in connection with the investigation and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a garda Station in the southern region.
The scene at the residence in Carrigaline has been preserved for technical examination by the local scenes of crime officers.
The Office of the State Pathologist and local Coroner have been notified. A post-mortem examination will has be arranged.”
